Tributes to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II were paid by Cardiff Councillors at a special meeting of Full Council held at City Hall on Tuesday (September 13).

The meeting, where a Motion of Condolence was passed, began with a minute of silence, before the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Graham Hinchey addressed the chamber, paying tribute to how Her Late Majesty “served our country with dedication, wisdom and an unfaltering sense of public service.”

Proposing the Motion of Condolence, Council Leader, Cllr Huw Thomas, said:

“Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was respected immensely for her dignity, selfless devotion to her faith, and her commitment to public duty, and she was held in high esteem and great affection by many people in Cardiff, in the UK, in the Commonwealth, and across the world.

“It is with great sadness that this Council, and the capital city of Wales more widely, joins with the rest of the nation in mourning the end of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s remarkable long life and reign.”

Seconding the Motion, Leader of the Conservative Group, Cllr Adrian Robson, called Her Late Majesty a “a friend to the city,” and said that “on Monday the world will pause to remember and pay tribute to his iconic lady and while there will be sadness in our hearts, we can be thankful for the life of this incredible lady, a monarch dedicated to her work and an absolute force for good.”

Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Cllr Joe Carter, said:

“The life of Her Late Majesty the Queen is a towering example of how to lead a good life, one of service, one of dedication, one of love, not just for her friends and family but for her country and the Commonwealth.”

The tributes can be watched in full here.
