The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiffand Leader of Cardiff Council have paid tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II following the announcement of her death today.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Graham Hinchey, said:
“Queen Elizabeth II has been a constant in the life of the British nation and Commonwealth over the last seven decades. As the longest-serving monarch in British history, she served our country with dedication, wisdom and an unfaltering sense of public service.
“The Queen dedicated her entire adult life in the service of this country. She has been an anchor at times of war, social and political unrest and throughout the recent pandemic. She has been a trusted advisor to dozens of Prime Ministers for more than seventy years.
“The Queen had the respect of the vast majority of people in Cardiff, across the UK and abroad, and will be sadly missed. It is with great sadness that our city will now join with the rest of the nation in mourning the end of her remarkable life and reign.”
Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas, said:
“For her devotion to her duties and her dignity, the Queen was held in high esteem right around the world. We have been privileged to welcome Her Majesty to Cardiff many times during her historic reign and for most of us, she is the only monarch we have ever known. This is a very sad day for the nation.”
